I know this post won't apply to a lot of you, but if it does apply, you might be happy to hear the news. The His Dark Materials trilogy is being re-recorded. Audible U.S. has the first book, the second is coming in a few weeks, and the third is coming in April. I don't know of the narrator, Ruth Wilson, but she has to be better than the full cast recordings I already have. I'll definitely be getting all three books. If you love the series but hate the full cast audio books, rejoyce.

@alexhall I liked the idea behind the full cast books. They're narrated by Pullman, so that leant them an air of authenticity in my book. I'm not an audiobook fan generally, but I quite enjoyed those.

@cachondo I didn't mind them, but I generally prefer a single narrator if at all possible. And for me, it's a very rare author who can also narrate well. So far, Travis Baldree and maybe Neil Gaiman are the only ones I can think of.

@alexhall Interesting. I hope they include the part of The Amber Spyglass that was cut out of the US editions.
Ruth Wilson played Mrs. Coulter in the tv series.

@KaraLG84 I only learned a few days ago that there was a tV series. I thought the single movie was all that was ever made. I'll have to try to find it sometime. It's nice that they got one of the actors from that to do the new narration.

@alexhall @KaraLG84 The TV series used to be described on HBO Max in the US and hopefully still is. Failing that it's on BBC iPlayer and the usual other places.

@jscholes @KaraLG84 Thanks. I wondered why I didn't find it on iTunes.

@alexhall Because iTunes has never, as far as I know, had any TV series with audio description unlike their movie offerings. @jscholes @KaraLG84

@twynn @jscholes @KaraLG84 You're right about that. There are places to find just the audio of described media, though. My personal feeling on the matter is that I only download that audio if I can legitimately own a copy of the media. It's not perfect, as it may not compensate the audio description service, but sometimes it's the best I can do.

@alexhall Are you saying compensate the streaming service or the audio description vendor? Because if the latter, then I am almost positive they don't get any royalties when the AD track is streamed, they just get payed the once to provide the service, though I'm sure it's useful metrics to the streaming service. @jscholes @KaraLG84

@alexhall @twynn @jscholes @KaraLG84 audio-description services aren't compensated on playback anyway.
