@infobeautiful It's not too shocking, generally Python gets out of your way, but it also doesn't have the disgusting crust of build systems modern professional JavaScript has. Also them adding type annotations was a step in the right direction kudos Python maintainers!

@infobeautiful Seems surprising. I thought JavaScript would be secure in the top spot, because while python competes with others (including NodeJS = JavaScript!) to be the language of server-side, JavaScript gets used (increasingly due to growth in React, Vue etc) in almost every web app.

@harry_wood @infobeautiful from the look of it there's just more and more people switching to Typescript (which is a good thing).
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from corpsmoderne
@corpsmoderne @infobeautiful Oh yeah I didn't actually notice TypeScript is the newcomer in the 3rd spot. So it's showing a pretty big shift from JavaScript to TypeScript. That's interesting.

@harry_wood @infobeautiful yeah the ranking is not a great way to understand what is going on. Python may actually lose market-share and still gain one place if JS is losing more to TS. Would be more helpful to have actual numbers.

Python + HTMX has generally been very smooth for me, the Python was easy, learning HTMX subtleties like sending return data from the server for animation triggering has been the most complicated thing and it wasn't bad just not documented well

@infobeautiful A bit more weighted (arguably) list is the Tiobe Index on which Python has been top of the list for some time https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/

The real headline appears to be Typescript. Top three positions in a list changing places happens a lot.
But Typescript arriving at three on a night train from nowhere looks like the drama.
Pretty graph too.

@kevinrns @infobeautiful There's lots interesting here. Ruby falling off a cliff. The insurmountable persistence of C, Shell, and C++. The long, slow decline of PHP.
Given the languages, I suspect that Typescript is hoovering up developers from Ruby, Javascript, and PHP.
However, a few biases now that I think about it: ...

@kevinrns @infobeautiful C, C++, and Go projects tend to be monolithic, so are likely underrepresented. On the opposite end, Typescript & Javascript projects tend to be very small and numerous, so are likely overcounted.
It would be really cool to do charts counting stuff the various different ways and comparing them.

I expect Kotlin to rise soon, since for me it's to Java much like what TypeScript is to JavaScript
