@cycling_on_rails suddenly i understand why SNCF Connect is so terrible

if anyone wants to know how to build an international multimodal journey planner and ticketing service I have some free consultancy advice

1. get a whitelabel HAFAS licence

2. outsource to a team of 5-10 people to theme it initially

3. have 2-3 people maintain it

4. employ 1175 people to cram adverts into it and block journeys that would require more than two trains

@bovine3dom Here was my plan:

1. Read some research papers on journey planners

2. Build a journey planner from scratch

3. Something something timetable data

4. We also need some reseller contracts

I have realized in hindsight this was slightly naive, but we are close to launch now 🙃. Maybe we won’t succeed because we have no plan for adverts and blocking of connection chains though 🤭

@stefanlindbohm your plan is much more fun! but i don't think the SNCF and similar monopolies should be having fun.

And they definitely shouldn't force people to switch to the results of their fun as they did by killing off Oui.sncf and SNCF Assistant...

@marhei do not try to book a trip to Löwen (Leuven) in Belgium via SNCF Connect. It is not possible. There is an error in the translation, it should be Lüttich (Liège).
