It's never too late for new year resolutions, isn't it?! π After spectacularly failing to achieve any of my five goals last year, obviously the only reasonable thing to do was to quintuple the amount of goals this year, and make it a bingo card. π€ͺ So yeah, without further ado, here's my list of, uhm, "wishful thinking" for 2025. π
[#]NewYearResolutions #2025Goals

And, just for fun, here's the same list in randomized order. Let's see which one fares better at the end of the year! π

Also, no, I totally haven't written a bingo card generator in #Godot just for this. No, no, not me! Absolutely NOT!

@njamster Idk, suspicious.

@njamster Lol I actually thought about that just a couple of days ago, I needed to do a bingo card and was like "What if #Godot...?" π (in the end I just did it with a drawing software)

@njamster It's funny I actually did the same exercise just a couple of days ago (I have to blame my partner for that π) and it seems I have been overthinking it wayyyyy more than you did π
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from elFlashor@mastodon.gamedev.place
@elFlashor By exercise you mean "doing a bingo card of your new year resolutions"? Have you shared that somewhere? π I found it surprisingly hard to come up with 25 things, actually! Why and where would you say you overthought with yours?
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from njamster@mastodon.gamedev.place
@njamster I totally overthought it because I had many goals that were something across the whole year, for example "exercise more" (who doesn't have that one π ), but I really wanted to transform each goal into something that can have measurable progress, and not just wait for the end of the year to ask myself "did I do that every month this year?"...
... so I broke many of my goals into smaller steps with some count on it...
... which ended in me having enough goals to fill 3 full bingo cards π
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from elFlashor@mastodon.gamedev.place
@elFlashor Sounds more like you did it right, than that you overthought it. π But well, we'll know which approach works better at the end of the year, I guess, haha!

@njamster Haha that sounds like a challenge I'm willing to fail! π π
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from elFlashor@mastodon.gamedev.place
@elFlashor No, no, no! No failing allowed! Only one acceptable outcome: We're both winners! 2025 will be our year! π

@njamster how are you doing the exact same thing as me?
I do admit there's some different things on my bingo sheet - also I only know what's on half of the fields

@substain Haha, yeah, coming up with 25 different things was surprisingly hard! Will you share yours here, too? π (Totally get if you don't want to! I just think it's fun.)
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from njamster@mastodon.gamedev.place
@njamster I can't share it, because my wife keeps track of it - and I've only provided the first 13 fields. The rest will be a surprise for me.
Along with releasing a steam game, there are some rather "boring" things (doing more sports, starting a sour dough, reading -1- book, clear out the cellar)

@substain @njamster May I suggest the only book i've started (not finished...) last year?
"SterntagebΓΌcher" bei Stanislaw Lem. It's a bit of trash-y scifi put into little diary chapters that are mostly well sized. It doesn't really matter if you forget about the book and come back 2 months later :).
There was also a german public broadcast (ZDF?) TV series ("Ijon Tichy - Raumpilot"). It's good if you like goofy stuff

@shinyshinken @njamster I'll take a look β¨
It's not that I don't have books to read though, I just can't figure out when I'm supposed to do it. Maybe I need a vacation

@substain @shinyshinken I got back into reading (a bit...) at the end of last year with the excellent "Mistborn" trilogy. What helped me to get back into the habit was telling myself I'd read at least one page every day. Sounds silly at first, but there's no way you don't have time for that! But most of the time I'd still end up reading a chapter.
Then again, I'm a very habit driven person, so this may not work for you at all. π€·

@njamster @substain Was about to comment "wouldn't work for me at all" while reading, then you mentioned it might not work :).
I have trouble building habits and usually forget them completely. As in, I will just stop doing them and maybe remember a few weeks down the line that I wanted to do them regularly...
Welp :).
GF is a huge Brandon Sanderson fan (Mistborn) and recommends The Stormlight Archives.

@shinyshinken @substain Yup, that's what I'm currently reading, about 600 pages in. π Hasn't hooked me completely, yet, though. There's A LOT of build up.....
(Originally, the "Read (At Least) 12 Books" point was "Finish Reading The Stormlight Archives", but I changed it last-minute as I was afraid I might not want to. π )

@substain So the other 12 fields are filled out by your wife, but still count as your new year resolutions? π€π Anyway, "clear out the cellar" is a good one β definitely should have been on mine as well! π«£ And "starting a sour dough" is a neat one, too. Not boring at all! (At one point, I had "baking my own bread" on my list, too).
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from njamster@mastodon.gamedev.place
@njamster yes, tbh we gamified this a bit, it's not exactly just resolutions. There's prizes as well. Not knowing how we win might be a good reason to try to finish all of them, though

@njamster There are too many things that are too big in here! Can I softly suggest a free space in the middle to make things chiller and easier for yourself? It's ok for things to be easy!

@jessie Really appreciate your honest feedback! However, for now the list will remain as is. I plan to do monthly progress updates here, though, and will allow myself to modify the list, if necessary. So I'll keep your proposal in mind!
I'm well aware that the list is (probably: too) ambitious to achieve most of it in 2025, but that's fine with me. Simply found it to be an enjoyable thought exercise. π

@DominikDammer @JohannaMakesGames Well, if we're talking here about big, commercial releases: Sure! But smaller, jam-sized games? That feels achievable!
Also, technically I could release a game with strong puzzle and narrative elements that shifts between 2D and 3D, and that already would be "four" points. π
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from njamster@mastodon.gamedev.place
@njamster @DominikDammer I mean it depends on what you have going on besides. Being on 5 game jams sounds undoable for me, but if you are on 20 game jams, 5 sounds like not that much.
