@substain @njamster May I suggest the only book i've started (not finished...) last year?
"Sterntagebücher" bei Stanislaw Lem. It's a bit of trash-y scifi put into little diary chapters that are mostly well sized. It doesn't really matter if you forget about the book and come back 2 months later :).
There was also a german public broadcast (ZDF?) TV series ("Ijon Tichy - Raumpilot"). It's good if you like goofy stuff
