If someone wanted to share a music playlist without using Spotify, what would you recommend?

Ideally, this would be playable online without needing an account to hear it.

@docpop YouTube is probably the most convenient, but just as bad as Spotify if you care about that sort of thing.

Songlink lets someone pick their own poison, but it doesn’t support playlists, just individual songs and albums https://odesli.co/

@jonathankoren I'm thinking about Youtube, if I can find all the music there.

Spotify requires an account to listen to a playlist, but I think you can listen on youtube without needing an account, so that's a big step up.

@docpop I build playlists in YouTube music, which also are available in YouTube. That is fairly accessible, I think?

@matthew thanks for the suggestion. Is a Youtube music playlist different than a normal playlist on YT, or are they the same thing?

I was thinking about creating a playlist like this https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1g-GXFBtDQcegb85pGwy8C1d6W0IPrUl but if there's a more audio/music format for playlists on YT I'd love to try it out.

@matthew oh, I just noticed that playlist I shared has a "music." prefix to the URL, so I must have shared a music playlist without even knowning it.

@docpop That is a great question and I don't know for sure. It seems as though all YouTube Music playlists I create also appear in YouTube, but my YouTube playlists with video do not appear in YouTube music.

It's weird, and there must be some reason they do it that way. But I find it odd every time I make a playlist in one place and find it cluttering up my other place.

@matthew I see that there is an app called Youtube Music, so if I wanted to make sure that it showed up as a YT Music list, I can do it through the app. Thanks for the info.

@docpop Upload the MP3s to archive.org. Hoist the Black.

The web player is good: https://archive.org/details/jwz-mixtape-140
