I swear one time I made it up to Quelag without getting killed once. I'm not terrible, but I've been better at this game.

I never noticed this, at least not this clearly: the Undead Parish is the first area where they really test your patience.

You can run through the Asylum and Burg just fine, but everything in the Parish is put in chokeholds or ambushes to punish you for that.

The shield & spear soldier on the bridge, the rats, the soldier with boar in front of the gate, the hollow that taunts you into an ambush, the caped Knights...

Everything is just directly in your way.

Back to #DarkSouls.

Made a quick trip to the Moonlight Butterfly. I remember taking it down on my very first try way back when, but it killed me four times today. 😅

With the souls I bought a bunch of Titanite shards and "visited" the Undead Merchant. In other news: I now have a Uchigatana+5 and it slays. 😁

Currently looking at the streets of lower Undead Burg on my way to Capra.

Back to playing #DarkSouls for a bit. 5 minutes in and I'm already uncursed. I expected this to take way longer...

Also the butcher ambush is gone, so the fight up to the Burg wasn't as tough as I expected.

I initially planned to buy a Purging Stone off of the Undead Merchant, but 6000 souls!!! So I went through Firelink and up through the Parish to the bell tower to buy a cheaper one. Thanks to a Homeward Bone I'm back to where I was...uncursed. 😁

I know that trick, but I was doing okay. I'll keep it and never use it. I kinda remember that O&S are susceptible to Lightning too. 🤔

@jake4480 maybe seeing and reading how much I suck and get killed will make it easier? 😅

I love this game to bits, even though earlier on I was close to throwing the controller. And I'm not exactly looking forward to the next session, where I'll drag my ass with half the health out of the pit again and probably fall for every trap at least once.

@hk I did that the first time. 😬

I don't think I knew about NPC summons back then and the PS3 wasn't hooked up to the internet. Or it didn't work properly.

It took me about a billion tries. I remember spending an entire day in front of the TV going into the arena and getting smashed until way late around 3 in the morning.

But I also remember beating it the next day and the feeling I got from that. 😁

@mforester In my playthrough last year (first time I played the game) I tried fighting them by myself once, and seeing that I got completely obliterated I decided to give Solaire a try to have some more room to learn the attack patterns and be able to beat them alone... And instead of that I ended up beating them on that try because Solaire got all the aggro from Smough so I fought a 1:1 against Ornstein, which turns out to be fairly easy, and then the second phase was also pretty straightforward 😅

So yeah, next time I'll go for it alone 😂
