Finally got around to it and The Expanse books are pretty great. Currently reading the 3rd one. My only nit is they all need a character index, these things are like Space-Tolstoys.

@deech I just finished the last book of the series last week and, eh, idk. I guess it was fine. It keeps getting better trilogy by trilogy but never quite nails it imo, despite the last two books finally getting a dog on the cast.

@bodil who nails it in your opinion, I confess to being a sci fi novice

@deech Ironically, I only started reading the Expanse because I read the first novel of their new series out of idle curiosity and kind of thought they nailed it. Though if you pressed me to name someone who really nailed it in the past decade or two, I'd go with Adrian Tchaikovsky. Maybe Ann Leckie.

@bodil @deech Subscribe. Ancillary Justice (Leckie, recommended by @rit iirc) is my favorite sci-fi book by a wide margin, although I am also a noob.

@tpolecat @deech @rit You'll need to read Children of Time next to test that margin.

@bodil @tpolecat @rit read that, thoroughly enjoyed it, kind of lost interest in the octopus sequel

@deech @tpolecat @rit That one was too upsetting for me, he had one character who insisted on using "octopi" as the plural.

@bodil @deech I have really enjoyed Neal Stephenson’s books, but I do not read other Sci-fi, so my opinion is very skewed.
