If you wonder to yourself how we ended up in a post-fact, right-wing dystopia, the answer is "gamergate." They wrote the playbook for the bad-faith "culture war" behavior now we see everywhere online.

@Dandelion almost need to do the dominoes meme where it starts with "woman makes feminism 101 videos on video games" and it ends with "most powerful country becomes fascist oligarchy".

The problem is there's the possibilty for all this to get much crazier. It's genuinely too early to tell and I hate it

@Dandelion I remember reading this 2014 Deadspin article on Gamergate and what it portended for politics and culture and being absolutely chilled by it. I go back to it now, and I feel like it was a warning.
