Lotsa talk about planned obsolescence but lost in it is sometimes it's best to design a component to fail. Either for repairability safety or both. Fuses are the obvious example but there's also nylon gears breakaway bolts & pressure releases

Engineers know this, management doesn't so there's a constant fight to explain making suchandsuch part stronger will result in a WORSE product.

Idk about Teslas but I can def see engineers afraid to stand up to firey mcfireyou

OMFG I'm entirely certain at this point in time that this smoothbrain told his engineers to make a lithium pipe bomb on wheels without even fucking realizing and everyone was too scared of being fired to tell him how stupid an idea this was.
