@uliwitness @dgregor79 @KirillOsenkov I would go with a grammar for Synalyze It https://www.synalysis.net

It worked great when playing with the Asset Catalog fle format (.car): https://blog.timac.org/2018/1018-reverse-engineering-the-car-file-format/

@uliwitness @timac @dgregor79 @KirillOsenkov yeah but tcl is a lot less accessible when exploring a file grammar. Synalize it is a lot easier to use.

@dgregor79 @KirillOsenkov Wasn’t there a Mac app that did this for any file based on C struct definitions back in the CodeWarrior days? Maybe @siegel remembers?

@dgregor79 I very nearly made this for SQLite databases, to help with debugging corruption reported by clients.

@numist @dgregor79 I was making this for Mach-Os two years ago and stopped when I ran into a compiler crash. It was fixed earlier this year so I might get back to it when things slow down
