Meta’s sudden hard-right shift is disgusting. They’re explicitly green-lighting hate speech directed at LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and others, and tearing down the DEI programs that would have helped level the playing field for people from underrepresented groups.

I don’t have any accounts with Meta to cancel, but if I did… today would be the day.

LazyWeb: I've been using Publish for my website/blog, but the tool isn't exactly being actively maintained, and I'm loathe to put much coding effort into improving it by myself. Should I make the hop over to Ignite? Is there another Swift static site generator that's also Markdown-centric, so I can focus on the writing rather than the infrastructure?

Part 12 is about move semantics, with a side of RAII and a note on the std::optional<T&> problem. #SwiftLang tackles the problem differently from C++, with "non-copyable" types providing guaranteed unique ownership. Nice ergonomics win for #Swift / C++ interoperability: the ability to extend access to "private" C++ class members to a specific Swift source file, so you can implement more parts of a C++ class in Swift without having to rewrite major chunks or expose these members publicly. If you think in C++, think of it as friending everything in that Swift source file. If you think in Swift, think of it as pretending that the C++ class was defined in that Swift source file. It annoys me to no end that this article reporting on preventable deaths due to the tragically flawed design of Tesla’s doors then goes to “general concerns about the safety of electric vehicles.” No, it’s not a general problem with electric vehicles, it’s Tesla’s awful lock design. The NTSB should have stepped in long ago to force Tesla to redesign these door locks so they can be opened from the inside after an electrical failure. Now it will never happen.

“D-Day” is such an odd choice of metaphor for him to bring up. D-Day is when the forces of democracy allied together to turn the tide against fascism. In 1944, it was a massive invasion by sea. In 2024, it very well could be a massive wave of women at the ballot box.

SCOTUS leaning extra-hard on the scales in the week before the election by allowing voter purges to continue in Virginia, overruling two levels of lower courts via the shadow docket.

U.S. folks, please get out there and vote for Kamala Harris.
