Oh that’s lovely!

You know, I suppose a lot of people would not find a foggy winter marsh boggy place lovely, but they don’t know what they are missing. Liminal spaces like this open conduits.

@IcooIey ‘liminal’ that’s the word. It was just out of my reach this morning!

Yes, I love these places. I’ve had some wonderful foggy walks. Once up on Dartmoor I was surrounded by lapwings - I could hear their otherworldly cries but not see them. I can imagine how travellers in times past would have found it quite terrifying.

@helenclayton in grad school I was a caretaker for a university property about ten miles out of town. Driving in to campus in the fog one day, I inched through a rural crossroads surrounded by fields I couldn’t see with the windows down so I could hear if there was traffic. A flock of snow geese burst across the road, flying low, appearing and disappearing back into the fog. New to me, but unmistakable. Had I been traveling regular speed, would have hit them and ended in a deep ditch.

@helenclayton but glorious too! One of those gifted moments you feel privileged to experience.

One moment an unidentified susurration, then a flock of magical white and black geese a few feet in front of my windshield, then silence. Definitely portals.
