Are any of you using Briar? Seems like it might be useful. I’m particularly interested in how it might help when there is no internet access.

@KolokokoBird I may be misremembering, but I vaguely recall @danie10 talking about this?

@KolokokoBird I love the Briar idea, but I gave it a pass because it was Android only. But I just looked and it seems they now have a "desktop" version for Windows and Linux. I'm not clear if it's an independent program or if it can only be used to sync to your existing Android account. You'd think that'd be spelled out somewhere, but I guess I have to install it to find out.
Regardless, nothing yet for iPhones.

@ericphelps I think I read somewhere that and iPhone app will eventually be released. So maybe one day?

@KolokokoBird
I've tried it a few years ago, and even with my strong idealism and love for the idea behind the app, it wasn't feasible. A lot of times the messages just wouldn't arrive, or with considerable delay.
I'm sure they fixed a lot of that, though I think there is a major concern is not fixable, which is that both devices (sender and receiver) must be online at the same time to exchange messages.

@maltimore @KolokokoBird There's a “mailbox” concept, something like personal #briar server: you can leave spare device where power/network is, and it will keep the messages until deliverable.

@brie @maltimore Thanks, Brie. I found the mailbox app and downloaded it. Will test it out if friends are willing to help me experiment with it.

@maltimore Thank you. I wonder if it is any different now. The companion mailbox app might be the answer.
