I tried using #freecad to model something, but it just can't handle converting a complex #STL into shapes/solids.
Looks like it requires a long path before it could be used.
And yes, it's very unstable
FreeCAD 1.0.0 Revision: 39109 (Git)

@Felixoid Which STL did you try? Regarding handling meshes, it can be a good idea to use a software which works natively with meshes (like #blender for example)

@M4x I tried the base from this collection https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6868919
And I preprocessed it in #meshlab, without preprocessing #freecad died suffering.
I think yes, #blender looks more appropriate

@Felixoid have you found something better at taking meshes to solids?
I find that process to be terrible in just about every software and end up just editing the mesh in Blender.

@amd I've been using #blender for quite some time, but it feels wrong somehow.
I think I'll try to make new things in #Freecad but edit existing STL files in blender

@Felixoid that’s my exact process.
