Finally about ready to fix to my old #Thinkpad X230. Probably want to put #Linux on it, but I've been out of that world for quite a few years at this point. What distro should I install?

I second that. Linux Mint Debian Edition is a great choice.

It's the distro that I put on most of the refurbished computers I sell to people who want Linux.
