In case you missed it, Window Maker Live was updated last week and is based on Debian bookworm. It integrates with the GNUStep desktop environment. Here it is running on my almost 20 year old ThinkPad T43p (released April 2005) this afternoon. There is an amd64 and an i686 version available. The developer has tested it on a T23 with 1GB of RAM.

I fixed this by using a spudger to just pry those keys off the number pad so ... whatever. System still runs fine as a desktop for now. I also have a new-ish Galago Pro (daily driver) and have had s Serval WS in the past. But I mean it's hard to go to like Best Buy and even in the $500 range, the laptops are sturdier and better quality. Or even pulling up my 15 year old X201 or my 20 year old T43p and the hinges are still tight and there's no creaking. #system76 #linux #laptops #thinkpad

I'm going to stan system76 but man it's hard to see my 2020-era Darter Pro 5 literally fall apart. In 2023 it was given a new lease on life as a desktop after the hinge broke (common problem) and there are no replacement parts available. In 2024, after just sitting closed with external monitor and keyboard, all the keys on the number pad got stuck in the pressed down position when I opened it, making logging in impossible because gdm was registering keystrokes. #system76 #linux #laptops

Spotify tells me that the song I listened too the most in 2024 was, "Click Click Boom" by Saliva. Now I'm of the right age to have remembered that song but I'm pretty sure I haven't listened to it in about 20 years. Is someone trolling me? The rest of the top five (edm, asian hip hop) seem correct. But Click Click Boom? Come on.

Back in the Spring, I got all the #system76 computers together at my wife's desk and took a photo. L to R -> Darter Pro desktop (Debian Stable); HP Dev One (Pop!_OS); Dell monitor; and Galago Pro (Debian Stable). Linux Mint Debian Edition is a fantastic desktop. This is what I've been looking for.

It's just a desktop for Debian bookworm. No weird Ubuntu stuff, no snaps, no Frankendebian mix of stock and testing repos.

It's just Debian Stable, with an added repository for the Linux Mint desktop environment. That's it. You alter Debian just as much when you add the Chrome or Spotify apt repo.

Why this isn't the default Linux Mint distribution is beyond me.

I was willing to put up with Vivaldi's shitty adblocking (thanks Manifest V3). Did not expect Vivaldi browser to log me out of everything and then forget how to sync. Now I've lost all my login information. Thus ends my "switch to Vivaldi" after less than a month.

This is not a serious browser. I tried. I even granted it the exception as the only non-FOSS on my computer.

Deleting my Vivaldi social later today and moving on.

Panel upgrade in my System76 Galago Pro is complete. Innolux N140HCG-GR2 (glossy, 400 nit) panel replaced the stock matte 250nit Panda display. About 30 minutes start to finish. What a difference it makes having a good display!
