polymer-based commercial tea bags release millions of nanoplastics and microplastics when infused. The study shows for the first time the capacity of these particles to be absorbed by human intestinal cells, and are thus able to reach the bloodstream and spread throughout the body.

@dougmerritt I learned about this about 30 minutes ago. This with quick googling:

It seems that the cellulose in 'paper' tea bags can be lined with polyethylene. The bag can also be heat sealed with heat-sealing agents and have adhesives that keep it in shape.

It seems that Lipton bags are mostly cotton and cellulose with small amounts of polypropylene or polyester fibers for strength.
