So, I was in a hospital for a CT scan today, and I feel incredibly lucky to have a primary care provider (an NP) who cares — and makes sure I get timely care by advocating for me.
My other observation: due to a rise in respiratory viruses (C-19, flu, RSV, etc.), the hospital strongly recommended masks be worn, and provided them at all entrances. Most people respectfully 😷, but 95% of non/chin/under-the-nose maskers…were men 30-ish to 60-ish. FFS grow up boys! 🙄

@KimberlyN I really wish we could go back to Canada being a (good) influence on the United Empire of Profit and "Manliness", instead of the other way around. 😒

Here in the Netherlands all those viral infections are just a common cold to hospital patients and we cannot ask our hospital staff of visitors to mask for us, because that would be silly for a common cold.
Every year the government reports that they need to spend less on state pensions than expected (and then start to argue what they spend the money on).

Wow, that’s so surprising. I think of the Netherlands as being more progressive and safety conscious than Canada is…
We have a healthcare system that is a patchwork across the country. Each hospital network generally makes up their own rules. I was pleasantly surprised by this hospital’s response to the uptick in viruses. I’ve been wearing my trusty N95s for years now, regardless of hospital policy, and I find I quite like not having respiratory viruses all winter. 😀

Here doctors and nurses will ask you why you are wearing a mask.
"I already have disease X, I would prefer not to add long Covid to that" does not seem to be a reasonable answer.

That’s just…mind boggling.

@KimberlyN wow. In the UK if you go to a hospital no one is wearing a mask, especially not the doctors, nurses or other staff.

Geez Louise! It’s not consistent here either, but my experience at least has been better than that.
