For people outside the US, this is a classic example and by no means a rarity.

@VeroniqueB99 I donโt understand how the US insurance system can fail at such a classic case while the same case in Germany just works.
In Germany, after the cancer is defeated, you can continue building your life almost from the same financial position you had before cancer.
That is what happened in my family, and the insurance and the pension system even paid for rehab.
No life savings lost, because protection against such high damage, low probability risks is just what insurance is for.

@ArneBab It works in EVERY other democratic country.
In France, you'd paid NOTHING if you have cancer. Period. Not the chemo, not the operations/radiation, hospitaliztion $0. There are so many countries that place health as a human right but not the US. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

@VeroniqueB99 @ArneBab this is not true in the UK by a far stretch anymore.
Sure the NHS does what it can but people do absolutely die waiting for the underfunded system to get to them.
What's the proposed solution? Private health care. I kid you not.

It's a funny thing, either side of Europe you've got these two imperial embers, Britain and Russia, fighting tooth and nail not to be part of the continent they're on, to be something special, superior, yet every effort in that respect only causes grief, hardship and conflict.

It's not even like they were that fixated on the past, Britain at least, it seemed we were largely getting past it, and then the bitter, the small minded, the decrepit, the weasely hateful few consciously and actively dragged us back in a pointless, senseless monumental act of mindless vandalism.

I find that totally normal... in the US you'll get "yeah but you're paying it in taxes!" (no they're not) or "that's just because etc etc"... there's so much that the US won't fix for themselves... cuz it's 'socialist'!

@VeroniqueB99 @ArneBab Yes we do pay it in our taxes... and we actually pay a lot less... and EVERYONE gets healthcare! ๐๐ Itโs such a messed up country I canโt even begin to understand why folk tolerate it. The first time Trump won the election he actually lost by 2.9 million votes, and they try to explain the system to you as if that justifies the absurdness of it. Odd country. @kDelta And as nod to some common sense: about 750.000 people who voted for Trump against Biden did not vote for Trump against Harris.
Sadly about 12 Million people who voted for Joe Biden did not vote for Kamala Harris.
So Trump still won despite losing followers.

@VeroniqueB99 @kDelta @ArneBab this always annoys me. We live in a society, which is the definition of socialism. It's really just where we choose as the edge of the tribe that people are arguing about (household, family, friends, street, village, town, state, country, planet (if anyone ever settles in the moon or Mars), etc.

@ArneBab @VeroniqueB99 It didn't fail. It's just designed to generate profit and some people made some nice money by looting this family that didn't have much of a choice. It works as designed. Sick people are easy targets and milked dry efficiently.
Why so many american voters think this is good actually, or not possible to be designed for the benefit of the people instead, is beyond me, though. That's some next level brainwashing as it is only possible in the US of A, I think. For now anyway.

@StreetDogg @ArneBab @VeroniqueB99 I actually think it can happen anywhere. There are well funded political forces in so many countries (in Western Europe or Latin America for instance) favouring extreme wealth concentration and limitation of labour, health & civil rights while wearing a populist mask on... and millions of citizens are buying into that. These movements have great possibilities of getting away with it all if allowed to gain momentum. Some are already in power.

Itโs absolutely happening in Canada right now
If you want to watch the USโs cancerous for-profit healthcare model spread, watch the coming elections in Canada
The Canadian healthcare system would would be up for grabs if it was declared for-profit and thatโs absolutely on the table with American insurance companies salivating at the chance to invade
People have no idea what theyโd be voting for, but itโll be sold like #BrexitNorth

@kikebenlloch @ArneBab @VeroniqueB99 It can happen everywhere over time, but there's something unique about the US.
I think during the Cold War they talked themselves into being so anti-communism and pro-capitalism, that they have a long-lasting mental blockade about state services that actually work. The mindset was "it's either capitalistic or it's the enemy" for generations and instead of getting rid of that self-harming sillyness, they are spreading it to other countries.

@StreetDogg @ArneBab @VeroniqueB99 That may've well been the case for decades but since the dawn of the 21st century I see an increasing amount of radical anticapitalist views from US citizens. I cannot foresee the outcome but they seem to me so absolutely let down by late stage capitalism (how to earn a minimum living wage, where to live/shelter that one can afford, how to deal with health issues since all sickness has been turned into a business model...) that they're absolutely mad at it all.
=> More informations about this toot | More toots from kikebenlloch@mastodon.social
@kikebenlloch I see a mix of Anarchocapitalist ("letโs make society even more capitalist, then it will be better for sure! Why not allow people to haggle about a pricetag for murder?") and radical anticapitalist ("nothing can be solved without first destroying capitalism!").
I donโt think that either of those actually helps.
