@actuallyautistic Well, we had 12YO's Autism assessment back from Healios today... and it's positive, so he's now officially #AuDHD. I'm not surprised - it does explain a lot, but the comments basically said for us to keep doing what we're doing, because we identified a lot of accommodations we already make. Of course, we still have a lot to learn, so it's an ongoing project.

@cybervegan @actuallyautistic I am seeing more ADHD characteristics in my 9 (autistic) yo day by day...

Impossible to say with the 7yo, too much noise.

@Cattz @actuallyautistic Truth told, whilst it's useful to know for sure - so we can access all those amazing accommodations the politicians are mad about, or maybe just get him some help in exams so he has a level playing field. But mostly because it helps us to understand how he sees things, and to form strategies to help him with his education and life skills.

@cybervegan @actuallyautistic I am seeing a lack of executive function that really surprises me. I was AuDHDer but my traits clashed in a "functioning" way until my first burnout on my 20s. I don't know if it was because it was expected of me and I didn't want to be "bad" or because I was really able to function by myself.

@Cattz @actuallyautistic Sorry, what I intended to say as well, was I suspect you are probably giving them a lot of help with the strategies and accommodations you have amassed over the years. When you have to list them out for an assessment, you realise exactly how much you do for them, over and above "mere parenting".

@cybervegan @actuallyautistic I am trying to get the DLAs and is actually exhausting going by the forms and thinking about how much we have to be their memory or safeguarding guides still at their age 😅

@Cattz @actuallyautistic In discussing it this evening we noted that we can now re-apply for DLA for 12YO, which was previously denied, even though 14YO was approved. My wife noted that "it won't be until after she's submitted her 4 essays" for her master's course. The form filling is exhausting enough, and she does most of it, but the constant low level management you have to do, the careful communication so as not to trigger PDA or meltdowns, and the strategies you have to use to just get out the door in time for whatever you're doing that day. It becomes so "normal" you don't notice you're doing it, but it's still wearing.

@cybervegan @actuallyautistic it's amazing how the people without executive function got the kids with higher needs and no help!

@Cattz @actuallyautistic Yeah, it must run in the family or something. Fortunately, my wife has excellent exec func whereas mine is ... selective.
