You may not like it but this is what peak OS design looks like.

@adam I have indeed evolved to admire this more and more retrospectively. The simplicity was brilliant.
I prefer even older versions though. Not a big fan of the Control Strip for example. While it makes sense for volume, having stuff like resolution change always 1 click away was superfluous .

@santiago @adam But Location Manager down there was incredible. An under appreciated and hard to setup feature that was years ahead of its time and worked so well once setup. Still missing some of those features (eg default printer per location) in macOS still today!

@santiago @adam A lot of stuff on the classic mac sucked though. The scrollbars not indicating how large the content was for example. Also the fact that double-clicking on a directory opened a new window (which was never where you wanted it to be).

@adam I like Platinum more, but close enough!

@adam I wish there was a halfway point between System 7 and MacOS 8 graphic design. Still as flat and simple as 7, but with subtly beveled pushbuttons and other B/W controls and menus, and with the greying-out of background windows and accent colors to make the front window more apparent. Like 3rd party apps did.
Under the hood: Also proper multitasking and memory protection, Quickdraw with bezier paths and transparency, and I wouldn’t mind having AppKit either.

@uliwitness That would basically be light-mode for NextStep. :-) @adam
