Tried to read my “Angry yet interesting list” but it’s not easy to focus on the interesting in the midst of so much anger 🤷🏻‍♂️

Man I wish Canada & Mexico had a sense of humor and made a public joint agreement with BRICS countries regarding tariffs.

I mean #Trump is literally asking for this. He seems to think his country still holds half of the world’s manufacturing output as it did in 1945-1950. It’s 16% nowadays.

So far it’s mostly my own work / home stuff so it’s pretty light . The heaviest thing in here is HomeAssistant and I spent the night migrating it from a Pi 4. Obviously it’s much faster being now mostly alone one a mini PC. Glad it is properly backups in a non artisanal way.

Sure it doesn’t have the reliability of an actual data center — being vulnerable to 🐱 cat-in-the-middle — attacks but it’s what combined specs you can get for self hosted #proxmox servers these days.

It’s two mini Chinese GenMachine mini PCs, each about 300$ (bought one used now, other two years ago) with older (non-SSD) USB drives for backups.

For what it's worth saving a backup from the webUI and importing into a fresh HAOS setup didn't look so back. A few things weren't responding but most of it was there.

Anyway, downing the VM for the night as I am afraid some automations would run twice or worse concurrently.

Well this here made is very easy to get #HomeAssistant running on #Proxmox

https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/guide-install-home-assistant-os-in-a-vm.143251/

Now I think I will wait for a day with nobody home and a very peaceful mind and a lot of previous reading before learning how to migrate from a custom Raspberry Pi Install to HAOS ..

Note to self: be more careful when removing a node from a #proxmox cluster and readding it.

Very bad things happen when the machine that had ID 2 becomes ID 1 after deleting a cluster and recreating it ...

On a side note: restoring lots of dumps... 😅

Nothing new under the sun as I have been doing this on real DataCenters long ago but the way you can hit the migrate button on your home #proxmox "dataCenter" and your VM now runs on the second mini pc feels like magic.

Note it's not instant because it's literally dd running in the back on a local HD and uploading it to the other machine.

How come Liberapay still doesn’t have 2FA ? Would seem reasonable for something with a recurring payment system.

Really can't stand Omnifocus anymore but I am still not motivated with anything else I see. Thinking of trying to move all the stuff that is not paid work and has has no date (but an order) to another app.

What's a minimalist list I can have with:

Ideally runs on iOS + desktop (Mac, LInux, or simply in the terminal)

I love when flight options are 8 in the morning or 22:00. So either you arrive at the hotel sleepless and fall asleep and lose the day or you arrive at 1 in the morning and go to sleep too.

That's for the direct two hour flight. Otherwise you can have nice (cheaper flights that last 4 to 10 hours over the whole country..)

I remmeber in 2022 I thought getting a MacStudio Ultra was slightly indulgent. I got the lower model at 64GB and it rarely used so much memory. Looks like today it all makes sense since I can run the 32B distilled model for DeepSeek R1 (it's 18 GB).

So you can run the full 700gb deepseek model on “cheap” 6000 $ hardware following this guide.

This is a slower setup, running purely on CPU. But it means a small company can experiment with the real thing.

Article says a GPU setup would be in the 100k. Anyway even 100k would be within range for many medium-sized corporations.

Oh looks like my Used mini pc should be arriving today ! New proxmox machine means some redundancy.

I am a bit afraid of messing up but I’ll be happy to move my #HomeAssistant to a more resilient machine than a Pi4 with a usb SSD. It has been running flawlessly for about 4 years but it someone’s shows its limit when doing backups. If I told you the size of DB for my home you wouldn’t believe me 😅
