My #twitter account has been locked down and dormant since that guy took over but I didn’t want to delete it until I had one of those self-hosted archives set up so I could reference and link to things from the fifteen-ish year history of my tweets.

I’m at the point now that I’m feeling some urgency to properly delete things over there so I guess I’m looking into #SelfHosting projects this weekend to see if I can set something up. If anyone has experience or suggestions please share!

I got a chance to look into the #twitter export and it is better than I thought. The included HTML interface is quite broken but the raw data is pretty good, including the expanded t.co links and even RT contents.

@krssctt for #selfhosting suggestions, it would greatly help to know what your relative comfort is from a technical perspective:

• What's your budget?

• Do you already have spare hardware?

• Do you already know #linux well?

• Are you comfortable with scripting/coding?

Etc.

There are a ton of great options out there, it just depends on what your situation is.

@krssctt someday I'm probably going to use @mcc's (derived) thing to host a personal copy of my archives: https://github.com/mcclure/twitter-archiver

I kind of want to modify it to have apub compatible metadata though so the posts can show up in fedi, at least for my previously public accounts.

@megmac @mcc I did remember this but I have some different ideas on how I want to do it, so at this point I think I’m going to build my own thing. I also had that thought about adding (at least partial) ActivityPub compatibility, although I’ll have to see if it will actually be worth the effort - realistically, most of the old content will never be interacted with or even seen.
