Soooo … who comes up with the “serving size” on nutrition tables?
Out of curiosity, I just used the kitchen scale while preparing my Müsli for tomorrow’s breakfast. The pecan nuts, cashews, dried fruit, and whole grain oats made for a sum total of ~150 g?! And that’s without the half banana and quarter of an apple I’ll add freshly in the morning.
The oats list a serving size of 40 g — I used 70 g. 😳

reading through the English and German Wikipedia articles for "serving size" and "Portion" it seems that either the manufacturers themselves get to decide what they call a serving and then calculate the nutrition data based on that, or you have a governing body that decides based on how much of whatever you should be eating. Consumers regularly consume more than one serving of these products, regardless.

I love how governing bodies and companies try to tell us how big a helping should be for two very different reasons and how people just eyeball their serving size based on "how hungry do I feel" or "how yummy is this".
