In slightly more positive (or at least proactive) news, can anyone relay their experiences with either #GrapheneOS or #CalyxOS? I have decided (mostly but not completely unrelated to yesterday's results) to move away from all things #Apple for good. That means I'm getting rid of my iPhone and Macbook. I want to move to an Android phone that is completely de-Googled.
I'm going back to the #Pixel 8 Pro, if that makes a difference. Once I've got my carrier set up on the eSIM I will wipe it and install one of the two ROMs listed above. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated, as are boosts!
@thomholwerda, I believe you have a Pixel 8 Pro too right? Any suggestions or thoughts? Thanks!

Thank you everyone for the feedback, it has all been extremely helpful! Please feel free to share your experiences further.
I've decided I want to try GrapheneOS first, and if everything I need works I'll probably stick with it. If I have issues with it I'm going to switch to CalyxOS and try it for a while. If neither of them work out I'll probably fall back to LineageOS. I know for a fact I don't want the default Pixel ROM, been there done that and it felt like Google was slurping up every single thing I did with the phone and using it to bombard me with ads and targeted content.
Thanks again to all who contributed and all who continue to chime in!

@kaidenshi
Please don't use CalyxOS. Insecure AF and they have been actively attacking GrapheneOS and its team.

@h3artbl33d thanks, I wasn't aware of the harassment. That's just so wrong!
Edit: looking into this a little shows that GrapheneOS devs banned CalyxOS from using their code because it wasn't open source? So does that mean GrapheneOS isn't fully open source? That's disturbing if it's the case still today. I'm going to keep looking into both OSes before I commit to either.

Is there any evidence of the Calyx team actually harassing GOS?
Because last I checked, the abuse claim was just the war drum Daniel Micay was constantly beating until Rossmann called him on it and he quit.
If anything, it was Micay constantly harassing others with false allegations. It was painful to watch. I actually like the GOS project, and I hope Micay is doing better.

@RL_Dane @h3artbl33d I found the same thing you are talking about, lots of accusations on Reddit being thrown out there by Micay.
Regardless, I've tested GrapheneOS and several of the apps I use daily are broken on it, even after following all the instructions about making Google Play-dependent apps work on the device. That's not a fault of the OS, it's a fault of the apps I depend on. I'm going to try CalyxOS this weekend (for now I'm running it with Pixel OS 15 with all the privacy invading stuff turned off or down as far as I can).
Thank you for chiming in by the way @RL_Dane!

As far as I am aware, the main issue is the Play Integrity, but this shouldn't affect a large number of apps.
It should be limited to NFC payments mostly - and, without a joke, the McDonalds app.
It might be a different case if you don't have Google Play installed. GOS has a sandboxed version of it, which could be either installed in a private space (or the other way around) or in a secondary profile, with just the applications that need it.
You might want to try enabling the compatibility mode if apps are really poorly developed.

@h3artbl33d @RL_Dane Thanks @h3artbl33d, I have tried everything I could find about getting these apps to run (Truist banking, Paypal, and a few work apps) and it simply doesn't work. They all start to open then crash.
If the same thing happens on CalyxOS I'm going to try LineageOS. They both use MicroG which is fine with me. If neither works out I'll go back to the default Pixel OS but do everything I can to lock it down and keep Google out of my business.
