@fj I guess people tend to think that the worst outcome would be that the devices are maybe backdoored, not that this might happen

Worst case outcome is that not every PETN pager battery was detonated, and there is now a small cache of explosive lithium ion batteries that cannot be detected by airport xrays in the hands of terrorists seeking revenge.
