I've seen several articles on news sites recently about people turning away from veganism, and manufacturers cutting their vegan ranges. No doubt it's happening, but the sudden surge of reporting across multiple outlets feels a bit... astroturfy.
I find it particularly odd that almost all the ex-vegans interviewed have gone back to eating meat. I'm vegetarian and was never vegan, but the though of eating meat now repulses me. Is this vegan to carnivore path common?

@GlasWolf I wager a lot who truly have done so have turned away from it due to eating processed fake meat products. For me the best way for my health to eat no meat is to cook all meals from scratch,
but I find that hard due to a combo of fatigue, laziness and poor motivation. I don’t do it but it’d be a lot easier to just revert to meat and two veg cooking.

@bobthomson70 As a lazy/disinterested cook myself, I'm delighted those products exist. Easy to knock up a spag bol or burger and chips without being tempted by meat-based ready meals (not that I would be).

@GlasWolf I’ve come to the conclusion they set off my Crohn’s myself so try to avoid them much as they make life a lot easier as you say. I think like all processed food, best avoided by anyone if possible but cooking all from scratch is a big ask for most folks.

@bobthomson70 I'm not sure what I'd do in that position - there is no way I could bring myself to cook everything from scratch. Did you see the recent thread about someone trying to avoid processed food for them and their family? She ended up basically spending all day in the kitchen cooking and baking bread - my idea of hell!

@GlasWolf it is a big ask aye. Less likely always better.

@GlasWolf I did see bursts of it a couple of times in fitness and parkour communities a few years ago, but it tended to be people who were quite young and had a tendency to 'trend-hop' in other areas too. Also, it happened in the opposite direction almost as frequently - people going from carnivore diet to vegan. 😃
In general I think it's good for young people to try new things and maybe get a bit over-excited about them... I envy their energy for that stuff.
More generally, I think very few 'trends' are as prevalent as our media landscape makes us feel they are. Social media algorithms and all that. Hopefully this place will bring a bit of 'hype-reduction' to that mix, not being algorithmically nor financially driven.
