Israeli "hostages" but Palestinian "detainees"? I think BBC News is BBC News-ing again.

I'm no expert in these technologies, but this appears to be a bunch of thinktankers, Mozilla execs (sigh...) and a few AI bros trying to raise $4 MILLION "to turn Blueskyโ€™s underlying techโ€”the AT Protocolโ€”into...an entire ecosystem of interconnected apps".

Such a great idea I'm amazed that no-one's thought of it before! Perhaps just donate to the Fediverse instead?

(Sadly this was being pushed by @openrightsgroup.)

Labour's despairingly credulous voter base should be delighted by the party pledging billions for useless AI and CCS that has never, ever worked.

If Musk would just buy a football team, the UK media would never need to go elsewhere for a story ever again. The Daily Musk. Six O'Clock Musk. Musknight. Musk of the Day. Wall to wall nazi bullshit.

Remember when the SNP won control of #Glasgow City council in 2017, it having been under Labour control for decades?

Remember the Labour-led trade unions then immediately started industrial action, demanding the SNP settle a decades-long equal pay dispute for women council workers?

Remember it then came to light that the previous Labour administrations had spent ยฃ2.5 million FIGHTING the equal pay claims?

No change. Labour - a party of hypocrites and liars.

Fully agree with this. The far right are assembling to make an assault on Holyrood, and the centrists of all stripes have nothing to offer those disaffected and looking for change.

It's happened in the US, and is happening in England and Wales. It would be a huge mistake to assume those in Scotland who desparately need change will continute to vote for the status quo.

But where will the progressive counter-offer come from?

I'm starting to see a few Bluesky posts here now, and have mixed feelings about it. On one hand it's the same old flawed centralised model with the same old VC funding and routes to enshittification, and I'd rather encourage and promote fedi content than publicise Bluesky.

OTOH it's often from users who have at least ditched X, and I totally get that Masto is a hard sell for people who just want an X replacement.

Nevertheless, I admit it annoys me, and I won't engage or boost. So... AITA?

With the US government threatening to take the country back to the pre-vaccination era, it's worth remembering Joe Biden in 2022 calling out the Fox News organisation for spreading Covid antivax disinformation to millions while themselves being vaccinated and boosted.

Has there ever been such a widescale, rigorous, long-term, coordinated campaign of mainstream #media disinformation as the current reporting on #Israel and the #genocide in #Gaza?

Usually we see outlets skewing according to their editorial stances, plus lots of both-sidesism. The last year has seen a near total capitulation to the Israeli narrative.

I suspect it's no coincidence that neither the UK nor the US political establishments are offering an alternative view.

This is an interesting, if uncritical, interview with Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus Energy. He mentions that if regional pricing was in operation in the UK energy market, #Scotland would have the cheapest electricity in Europe (see from 10m 43s).

I'll let you decide what mix of political issues has prevented Westminster from implementing regional pricing, but we in Scotland are paying through the nose for their intransigence.

Interesting to consider those old Tony Benn power and democracy questions applied to English MPs, from Scotland's point of view:

โ€œWhat power have you got?โ€

83% control over all non-devolved issues in Scotland

โ€œWhere did you get it from?โ€

A 318-year-old treaty

โ€œIn whose interests do you use it?โ€

My constituents in England

โ€œTo whom are you accountable?โ€

My constituents in England

โ€œHow do we get rid of you?โ€

You can't

I've seen several articles on news sites recently about people turning away from veganism, and manufacturers cutting their vegan ranges. No doubt it's happening, but the sudden surge of reporting across multiple outlets feels a bit... astroturfy.

I find it particularly odd that almost all the ex-vegans interviewed have gone back to eating meat. I'm vegetarian and was never vegan, but the though of eating meat now repulses me. Is this vegan to carnivore path common?
