I really like Gandalf's character design. I'm not very much into the whole wizard look with the beard, long hair and pointy hat, but on him they really got it right. I like how simple it is.

I had a friend in school who knew a guy called Frodo. And she herself (I don't know about that reallife Frodo, never met him.) started dressing more and more like a hobbit over time. She and I both were short girls.
I mean, who doesn't like Hobbiton? And Bag End? It really looks so nice and cozy. And I really want a black iron kettle if I ever have an open stove kind of situation.
But overall I'm less into the Hobbits than my feet would suggest :BlobCat_FingerGuns:

Ah! The ring ghost thingies. Black horse, black blowy cloak and iron gloves. I think the only thing that I don't like about them is, that this look is basic. It's basic in a good way, but it's not as definite as Gandalf is as "a wizard and especially this one". I've seen way too many "black cloaked figure on black horse" figures and they're not even all in the same film genre. But maybe others only see LotR in those.

We always say "Nazguls are screaming again." when the kids are screeching.

I think I'm watching this in English for the very first time.
I never liked the German name for Strider, but I like the translation for ranger, if I remember it correctly. The translation for elves is also quite nice I think.
Also funny: I always wondered why I do not like the affirming "I see you." insert Sauron's eye and screeching 'I see you'
(I came to appreciate it eventually.)

"We're going to see the elves, master Frodi." Is one of mine most used movie phrases but instead of elves I say other stuff. "
When I first visited the Netherlands, it was very exciting for me (living in the south of Germany) but very mundane for my hosts living near the border and they delighted in my delight over seeing Dutch people. Of course it's mighty problematic the whole concept of the elves. I still find that quote adorable.

All the made up languages are fun. Weirdly not in a nerdy way for me - I do have a similar academic background as Tolkien had (not on his level of course and with a mainly German focus) but the whole constructing languages is not a special interest for me.
It does round out the world building quite nicely.

Ah! Rivendell. I always loved those sets because of how they made it look like the elves integrated trees into architecture.

Aragon! He was my LotR crush BTW.
Do I remember right that Faramir, Boromir's brother, has a lovestory arch with Eowyn from Rohan? (I liked them.) As much of a lovestory as Tolkien can manage anyway. The films, I think, give the Aragon - Arwen thing it's true emotional depth.

I mispelled at least one of them but whatever.

The real most important lovestories: Sam/Frodo and Gimli/Legolas.
Fact.

Talking about hotness: I do have a weak spot for Merry and Pippin. I need to research the actors again, but I seem to remember, something surprised me about them. (I think I found one of them hot in another totally unrelated movie and then again here without realizing it was the same guy or something.)

@scintilla the Merry actor is not related to Bridget Moynahan, and the Pippin actor played in another movie in which Russell Crowe's and Paul Bettany's characters play a string duet at the end.

@daniel_bohrer I looked up my surprise! It was, that I thought one of them was in Boondock Saints but that is not the case.
I think my faceblindness really hit there.

@scintilla damn, Boondock Saints has been on my to-watch list for ages already

@daniel_bohrer it might be "too late" - I feel like it's one of those movies you needed to see at the time they became cult films. I can't really see it as aged well.
I do in fact think it might have managed to not be transphobic while showing someone crossdressing to achieve their goal. But I'm not sure. I do know I really liked the movie but it's quite brutal.
