Politics is what happens when groups of people get together. It's not all nukes and sanctions. Deciding where to go for lunch is politics. Maybe you go get the curry, and the people who don't like 🌶️ don't come. Maybe you go where the boss suggests. Maybe everyone agrees and there is no drama. Still politics.
Similarly, maybe you teach a course on geometrical deep learning. Do you put your material behind a login? That's a clear political choice. Do you use mathematical notation, or do you use programs? Use the former and you favour the mathematicians. Use the latter and you favour the programmers. Another political choice.
Politics is everywhere. It's usually very mundane. But it's still there.

@noelwelsh Indeed. The ”nonpolitical” argument is fallacy, but it is still something that alt-right pundits cleverly use to take over spaces & communities
When they wish to conquer a space, they start to brand ”political speech” anything the community disagrees about. After all, they’re just ”thinking what’s best for the community”
When they’ve become trusted members, they start to introduce nazi content into the discussion. People who disagree, are branded ”political” and wedged out
