Anyone have tips for hosting servers on solar energy? My brother wants to deploy some old racks after having the energy company reduce the compensation to less than the price of maintenance. Mostly concerned about making task restore work, he won't get enough energy to maintain uptime when sunlight isn't available. Maybe virtualization with some kind of hook for suspending when energy is less available?

@calebjasik@mas.to Nice, I'll look into this. Making some kind of monitor will certainly be necessary, could be fun to have some kind of public monitor. "Solar powered vuln research machine" is kinda hilarious/solarpunk to me.

@addison I'd probably look at converting all the gear to running off unregulated 12V… feed the solar power into a battery bank… run your servers from that.
