@lynnesbian Incidentally, one of my crontab entries does basically "crontab -l >~/.crontab" -- backing up my crontab to a local file -- nightly ever since I realized how easy it would be to silently remove it. Have I ever actually needed it? Look, today might be the day; you never know.

@marsroverdriver sure, you could keep regular backups to protect yourself against the case where you type crontab -r instead of crontab -e...

or, you could take the much simpler approach of switching to an entirely new keyboard layout like dvorak, where the R and E keys are far enough apart that it'll never be a problem!
