My daughter gave me a copy of Percival Everett's latest (James: A Novel) for my birthday. It's a retelling of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn from the point of view of, Huck's companion Jim. I can't endorse it highly enough! Powerful story! No punches pulled about how an enslaved person feels about it. Should be required reading afaic,

@dilmandila Definitely some humor around code-switching and other elements of playing with whites' preconceptions & prejudices. Overall tone, though, is much more focused on anger - and fear. (Iirc - haven't reread Huckleberry Finn in a long time)
