Went to an in person tech meetup, 1st one in years. Learned about #dotnetaspire and #otel - which generally is a dot net fluent api alternative to docker compose and also a fancy retry-like library and an otel dashboard for use at development time, but can also be pointed to some grafana-like server.

I've gotten 2 job from LinkedIn, I think my next will also be via LinkedIn.

--

I've gotten 2 jobs from twitter, hired 0 people

I've hired 1 person from dctech slack

Before 2016, I just activated my resume on a few boards and the calls rolled in & I never found out what board they used to find me.

Mastodon is 0/0 for jobs/hires.

I think I can hold my pee for 3 hours until I can do a drug test. If I succeed, I think I should put in on my resume. Maybe not, a yellow resume isn't going to impress.

What does that even mean? If anyone forks one of my repos, do I get PR approval rights in their fork?

Fed gov't hiring levels have been at ~2 million for 50 years. Contracting head count exploded since then to fill the gap.

Federal ...hiring freeze...-

"Contracting outside the Federal Government to circumvent the intent of this memorandum is prohibited."

Contracting companies aren't purely staffing companies, they do solution delivery & contracts are often in place long before things like this come up. Not sure what this means for contractors.

Anyhow, my thinking is influence by this video covering the video game addiction problem in China, Korea and Japan and what the government have done there to attempt to address it.

Feed your own behavioral addiction and watch it.

If I was the living embodiment of the "Far Side" comic where parents were imagining a newspaper want ad full of ads looking for people to "Save the Princess for $$$"--then I would have stalled out at $45k salary (in an expensive part of the world)

We viscerally understand the disadvantages of a child bound to a wheelchair, or other disability, but behavioral addictions robs a child of their youth, the ability to put time into the things that lead to career growth and will let them escape poverty after age 20.

I lived more or less in poverty from highschool to my second job.

I can't stop thinking about Behavioral Addictions right now

In the last 10 years we created a generation of young people with behavioral addictions. I think the media's "young people these days" articles are about the consequences of growing up with behavioral addictions.

Naive ANOVA analysis is essentially free to anyone with a college education now.

Seems like this should make it useful in all sorts of places where high powered stats would have be stupid in the past.

Study how how modern humans, when digging up their ancestors like to project unconscious 1950 sociopolitical agendas onto bones.

So it turns out that early humans didn't eat prestige foods, but ate like low class peasants: almost entirely plants, (but were probably too poor to turn down eating anything that moved)

All of my job leads are banks and bank-like things (grants management, insurance, etc)

The change from 0% to 4% interest rates really disrupted things, I guess that's the goal of central banks, to disrupt a pre-existing trend.
