This is the point I was trying to make earlier about the Constitution. Of course it forbids a lot of what 47 wants to do. The only question is whether opponents have enough power to stop him. It only took Hitler 6 months to destroy the rule of law in Germany.

The next time you hear someone say “the Constitution will keep that from happening,” remember, the Constitution is not going to leap from its display case at the National Archives and fly to the rescue. I see people saying we don’t have to worry about Trump's executive orders, because those only start formal processes that are required to implement the changes and those processes take time.

So, question: if, purely hypothetically, he decides not to follow said processes and does whatever the f&*k he wants, who's going to stop him? The courts? He'll ignore them until it gets to SCOTUS which already granted him absolute immunity to all actions he takes as president.

Anyone else?

Apropos the Thomas Jefferson quote I posted earlier: the US is not going to be anything resembling a democracy until (at least) the tsunami of disinformation flooding every single place voters get information is dispelled. I have no idea when that will happen, if ever.

It seems painfully obvious to me that, however flawed the Fediverse is (and it is), to fight back against US oligarchy control of social media it makes far more sense to promote decentralized social media and work hard to improve it, rather than just jump to the next US VC-owned monolithic system. But here we are.

We still haven't figured out how the human brain works. Given the current level of maturity of humankind, I'd say that's a good thing. Imagine what kind of dystopia could spring from that knowledge.
