It seems painfully obvious to me that, however flawed the Fediverse is (and it is), to fight back against US oligarchy control of social media it makes far more sense to promote decentralized social media and work hard to improve it, rather than just jump to the next US VC-owned monolithic system. But here we are.

I'm convinced that there is no way to talk people into the fediverse who are used to the big commercial apps. It doesn't matter how well it is explained, the choosing the server and interacting with other servers is just too big of a lift for the average person.
I know many Mastodonians don't want anything to change, but getting broad adoption would be a huge tool for democracy.
I wonder if the move to a charitable trust owning the main instances will move in that direction.

@Nincowpoop I think people can handle the concept—they can when it's email—but people promoting the Fediverse do a very poor job of explaining it.
