Okay... I'm not happy with anything I'm finding in the real of IDEs and code editors. I am not sure what IDEs moved to once SFTP/FTP became outdated.
Maybe git?

I know that the longer Im disconnected from some form of tech understanding, the more "behind" you can become. With me having pulled back from website/web design things, I am not up to date on the current tools and such. i also got a distro version upgrade when I moved into a new computer. Currently on the hunt for something that works very much like Aptana Studio did. SFTP capabilities desired. (and Linux compatible of course)d

Every January, there is the anxiety of job loss (Getting fired before/during/after Xmas is a common occurance). Looks like our inner circle was mostly safe except for one. They came to work and were just laid off on the spot ("budget cuts")
If you know anyone hiring for a head chef who is versed in French cuisine, that would be great right now. The fiid industry is not kind, for other reasons >.<

Set up UFW but have it disabled for now. Got browsers installed. With everything in its fresh state, it had me thinkin....
Is there any sort of FOSS/Linux friendly program to store my bookmarks. Ill still have bookmarks imported over from old server to new server, but just having a central place to maintain and keep up with URLs (bookmarks) would be nice.

I know there are some abuser-enabling/victim blaming takes re: blocklists. This take is not one of them, but I do want to get my thoughts out here.
I have always been against "bulk block lists" (e.g, Block Together back in the Twitter days). While it may save users some time in proactively blocking bad actors...the feature also became a tool that was abused, also. I'm not against the idea of people vocalizing to others about the trash that is in [community/fandom] . I appreciate friends and peers being proactive enough to observe and report (in small person-to-person conversations) when a problematic/hateful/dangerous person is in our midst. However, things like Social Media Callouts and Mob behavior show that not all block lists and methods can do the job without causing collateral damage to the good/chill people.
Mass blocklists have (some) potential to be abused -- by others in your community who wanna turn it into a beef list. Additionally, bad actors (outside of a given community) may create blocklists to align one group of people with certain behaviors or labels. (one example being that TERFs have created blocklists under the guise of a CSAM list, but the list just consists of queer people.
All that I have said here is not directed at any specific social media platform. It's not directed to any one fandom or community. These are social issues that come up, regardless of the platform you use. The social platform only makes a difference re: what self-moderation tools are at your disposal and what options you have if you need to escalate the matter to admins.
However, I do wanna call out the shortcomings of Bluesky. There are risks from having one's personal list of people (that they have blocked) being publicly viewable (Clearsky can show a BS users' list of people they have blocked.).
There is an abusive person (in fandom) who I make a point to avoid and not interact with. In every social space I find them, I just wanna block them and move on. BS is the first social network (that I have dealt with) that has made a users' personal block list as publicly viewable. Bluesky's Lists feature also seems to not have any privacy toggles, and Im reminded how much this same Lists concept was abused back on Twitter. Lists and Blocklists, if anything, should be options that have privacy toggles on them.
Given the legal threats that [AbusivePerson] has made towards us and (seperately) towards one of his victims, I'm not interested in my blocks being public. Part of me knows [AbusivePerson] may not be serious about these legal threats. However, I'm still not trying to leave anything out there that [AbusivePerson] can use as evidence for a Defamation/Slander style lawsuit. (SLAPP)

@Jaden3 This was your first time being old enough to vote...and it truly is Baptismal by Fire. The sentiment of "Sorry" just doesn't cut it.
I feel absolutely sick to my stomach about what is being laid out for you guys (your generation). Our country slips backwards more and more with every fascist normalization and rhetoric.

Can anyone recommend a good IDE for the Linux environment? I was using Aptana Studio back in the day.
I see something in the repositories called Eclipse, and if kinda looks like Aptana Studio in it's UI. Any one ever used it?

I wonder if there is an open source/free CMS out there that I can replace my Wprdpress site with. The biggest site I care about has a great gallery freaitee, with albums
https://codeasily.com/portfolio/gmedia-gallery-modules/
(linking you to the plugin instead of my site since my gallery is borderline spicy)
The developer is from Ukraine so I don't expect them to be following all this petty Mullenweg bullshit

Wordpress related news of this week leaves a bad taste in mouth. It's pushing me more towards finding a new (open source/no cost) CMS that I can try from future websites. Being able to be self-hosted is important.
I have alot of experience in Wordpress but also have worked with: Drupal (versions 6-7), Joomla (admittedly, not my favorite), TextPattern (TxP), and some older things like Xoom
I can't be the only one feeling the way I do about Wordpress right now. Of recent, I see people looking at Ghost (a headless CMS, but it doesn't look to be free), BackdropCMS (a fork of Drupal 7, I think) and Hugo. What free/open source CMSes are designers/devs interested in?
