Things I would like to find, related to building on my new server

  1. Self hosted CMS/CMF that is an alternative to self hosted WordPress

  1. Some framework/starter for basic websites (which are not intended to use a content management system)

  1. Something I can use as a webhoat control panel for my server. (For reference, I'm on a LAMP stack). cPanel is the one big host companies use but I want something open source

Also want to find some way to socialize with more website dev/designers ...esp those in furry fandom

@Catwoman69y2k I still want to try building my own CMS from scratch, but dang if I can't scrape together any motivation to get started.

Also I'm sure I'd catch no end of hate from other full-stack web devs for choosing to use php even though it is literally designed for its purpose while Python has to be made to fit the purpose with Django and Javascript with node.js. >.>

@dragonarchitect @Catwoman69y2k I can't say for certain, but I think at this point the PHP denigration is simply a cargo cult thing.

One upon a time, it may actually have been a truly badly-designed language, but my understanding is that in the decade or so since then, more folks have helped to improve it.

@stripey @Catwoman69y2k cPanel, Plesk, and Webmin are the three that I personally know about.

Webmin is pretty alright, but my experience with it is very low because I just don't poke my snoot into the system I have it installed on all that much... if at all.

@Catwoman69y2k cPanel is open source (it was twelve years ago?) but it's written in Perl, so it may take some learning

@stripey Ah, I don't know know I need all the extras of panel anyway. I'm open to any suggestions.

I'd like to know of some competitors

@Catwoman69y2k as it turns out I'm wrong about the licensing anyhow XD

I haven't worked in the hosting operations space for a long time, so I don't have a good sense of what's out there these days. I did see that there's this comparison page on Wikipedia which may be helpful if you haven't already seen it?
