Creative work vs set up:
For a programmer creative work is writing some new code for a fun project you thought up; set up is installing framework dependencies, or signing up for an API, or working on deployment.
For a traditional artist creative work is painting something; set up is prepping canvases, preparing paints, cleaning brushes, having a space to set up.
As a sysadmin by trade/mental defect, it feels like everything I do is set up. What's my creative work? (Pls share, answers wanted.)

Down to my last three cans of Irn Bru, but new supplies due on the 21st. May have to switch to Cherry Pepsi to get me through the start of next week.

Christmas these last few years has been pretty miserable. My mum died right before Christmas in 2020, which somewhat taints the holiday. This year’s been exceptional, though. With @elwinfortuna being really sick before it, Christmas Day itself is basically cancelled to be retried tomorrow. My sleep schedule is fried, which will probably ruin the rest of my time off and stop me doing the handful of things I wanted to get done. And Socks left us two “gifts” on the living room floor.
Ho. Ho. Ho.

Why is Mickey pissing on Pluto? Is this animal abuse, even though it’s being done by another animal? I’m confused.

When it was basically mainstream to discuss if it was better to let the old and vulnerable just die rather than restrict people's access to McDonalds or require minor inconvenience from wearing a mask, that set a new floor for what the majority are prepared to accept done to "others". It'll take a lot more than 83 deaths from a car most Americans think is stupid (expensive/impractical/woke/whatever) anyway to generate a reaction much above the apathy level.

This post asks "why?" we don't "hear" (aka, "care") about fatalities from exploding Teslas. Assuming the quoted numbers are true (which they're probably not) and the focus is less on the lithium batteries and more on the shocking bad emergency door access most Teslas have, why does no one care?
Multiple factors here, including media biases, sure. But also the reaction to covid set a precedent: normal operation of business is more important than people's lives.

Reminder that the 'bystander effect' isn't real, Kitty Genovese's neighbours didn't ignore her attack (most didn't even witness it, two people called the cops, someone even went out and held her while the ambulance arrived), and a lot of psychology that's really well known from this period is just total bunk.
I was taught this uncritically when I was studying psychology and it'll take a generation or more for it to really start getting the critical examination it needs.

Morning has broken, but we automatically failed over to our emergency offsite backup morning, so we don't anticipate any impact on SLA.

New keyboard day! This thing is so nice. First time I’ll be using a non-Apple keyboard since the mid-90s, going to be interesting!

The YouTube app is the only one that I’ve had crash on me on my AppleTV, and it does it fairly regularly. (Pause a video and leave it too long: you’ll come back to the launcher because the app crashed.)

Just checked my email and I have the email exchange from April 2000!
This is why I'd be so sad if I'd lost all my email, I've got decades worth of nonsense like this.

I did this! When eBay was new and novel, I listed my soul on eBay and they pulled it.
I complained, and they this is the exact reason they gave me. I was surprised, expecting to just get ignored for being obviously stupid.

Been reminded that I get a £100 "learning grant" to spend each year at work, and I hardly ever actually spend it. Not sure what I could spend it on, really: it's not for specifically work stuff (and we have a team O'Reilly account anyway). I've already got an Udemy account with seven pages of largely ignored courses, doesn't seem worthwhile adding to the list of stuff I'll never do.
So I've no idea what I could actually spend it on!

I’ve learned a bunch of exciting new (aka, less than 20 years old) technologies, but my server still lacks working email and my beard and hair is noticeably greyer tonight than it was yesterday. Also, systemd can get fucked all the way into the sea.
