Christmas these last few years has been pretty miserable. My mum died right before Christmas in 2020, which somewhat taints the holiday. This year’s been exceptional, though. With @elwinfortuna being really sick before it, Christmas Day itself is basically cancelled to be retried tomorrow. My sleep schedule is fried, which will probably ruin the rest of my time off and stop me doing the handful of things I wanted to get done. And Socks left us two “gifts” on the living room floor.

@semanticist @elwinfortuna 49 years - 5 more than my age - since my mom's dad died on Christmas Eve. Still taints the holiday at little in our family.

@snarfmason My mum died on the 20th, and I think what makes it worse is that she loved Christmas, and we mainly did all the Christmassy things for her. Also, while I technically have other family in practice it was just her. Christmas with just two of us now seems more muted anyway, then stuff like this happens.
