I keep thinking about the best way to leave WhatsApp, which in practice means the best way to encourage my family and friends to try something else with me, or just send me SMS and that's it.

Although Signal is the most direct โ€œtranslationโ€ of WhatsApp (and I use it, and contribute to its funding), it is still a centralized service that requires a phone number.

So I'm thinking of asking them to try Element X instead. Do you agree or am I missing something?

Does anyone know of a short, punchy text I can share with my contacts on #WhatsApp to explain how awful #Meta is (including the latest events) and encourage them to continue the conversation on [my preferred alternative]?

I want to take advantage of the ongoing scandals on #Facebook - #Instagram - #Spotify - X to see if I can get rid of WhatsApp, which I only maintain due to social pressure from... my family and my best friends. ๐Ÿ™„

I like stereoizers. Who doesn't like "stereoizers"? The principles to widen the stereo width of an audio signal are simple, but so many things can go wrong with phase issues, robotic/metallic tints... A lot of plugins and probably snake oil are advertised promising stereo paradise.

Yesterday I saw a Bitwig Grid preset from a new author, another stereoizer, so simple, but... sounds good? (need to test further)

Chordwatch

https://chordwatch.com/

Another plugin that works on #linuxaudio ๐ŸŽ‰

It identifies the chords you play and shows you the notation and scales. And more stuff that I'm still figuring out.

I find the identification of chords appealing. #Bitwig doesn't offer this feature and sometimes I pull #Pianoteq just for this. Anyone aware of open source alternatives?

Today I learned about ladder filters creating beautiful sine sounds out of "nothing" thanks to self-oscillating ressonance, heard on a #Bitwig preset by @polarity (Jupiter Drone).

This video by @polarity about PlugData has made me understand what an interesting and promising open source platform this is for audio plugin developers and music creators. Kind of evident once you get it but the fact is that I had missed it, even after installing PlugData because of some plugin a few weeks ago.

What every techno dancer has interiorized but most people not "understanding" techno probably haven't grasped.

Anyway, it's a less than 5 minute choreography performance and apparently is a TED Talk too? Highly recommended especially IF YOU DON'T LIKE TECHNO.

I am trying a couple of #autotune / pitch correction plugins for Linux. All I want is a bit of help to fix my own erratic voice OR explore effects following the steps of #crystalcastles (two very different purposes).

I'm trying MXTune and x42 Auto Tune. They are not perfect but neither is my voice, so I don't feel any authority to complain. ๐Ÿ˜… They are Linux-friendly and free, and so is my voice.

Anyone autotuning as well?

Turns out running #lv2 plugins in #Bitwig on Linux is easy!

  1. Install #Carla (which you don't even have to touch)

  1. Download #Ildaeil and move it to your #CLAP folder

  1. Insert Ildaeil in your track just like any other plugin.

  1. Load the lv2 plugin inside Ildael, which should list all your lv2 plugins (and #LADSPA too!)

  1. Run de lv2 plugin with its own UI or Ildaeil's mapping

The only drawback seems to be that you can't access the plugin parameters with Bitwig's modulators.

I'm trying out this #Boycat app to identify companies targeted by the #BDS campaign against #apartheid in #Palestine. I wonder whether they check the companies frequently searched to ensure that their assessment is accurate, that they are "clean" because they are and not because known information is missing. The US mainstream market seems to be well covered, and I wonder how good their coverage of the EU and Germany specifically is.

In any case, very interesting app.

Learn that the long-term and effective campaign by Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) continues to be officially considered antisemitic by the German government.

Learn that #BDS has organized basically the only citizens' campaigns that have influenced powerful economic supporters of the state of Israel.

This is why now I'm learning more about https://bdsmovement.net/ and how to support it as a plain, anonymous, and non-partisan citizen willing to help if only a bit to stop a genocide.

Learn that a large cross-party majority of the Bundestag in Germany (where I live) approved a resolution allegedly to combat antisemitism but in practice allows repression to critics of the state of Israel, points to Muslim immigrants as a risk, ignores that the actual risk continues to be the rising far-right, and supports the zionist (and antisemitic too!) conflation of Jewish religion and nation and Israeli state.

(This was dense, but this resolution is so shameful in so many ways.)

I asked myself: what can I do about the genocide that the state of Israel is perpetrating over the people of Palestine?

Learn that it is a genocide according to several UN agencies, Amnesty International, and more, despite of all the propaganda negating this obvious point.

Learn that the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, former Minister of Defense, accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

I'm so fascinated by Crystal Castles' effects on voices. Sampler, vocoder, no idea what else. I like them so much, I feel overwhelmed not knowing where to start to learn. I welcome any pointers.

I can practice in the same chronological order that they released songs. They were learning too. The Alice Practice debut EP has two songs with heavy distorsion. Then Air War, which I like a lot, is based on what seems to be a simple delay. ok

Given that https://linuxdaw.org has an RSS feed, maybe someone familiar with bot accounts could create one to promote new and updated music tools and plugins?

I've checked the feed and it is not noisy at all. This account could help promote the products and the directory itself, without much extra work beyond the account creation..

I'm not into promoting software discounts BUT...

The sample browser Sononym has given me so much, and I got it when a friend shared the news about a heavy discount. So far it's a one-time purchase and you get updates... forever? This is basically one independent developer doing great and very useful work. Plus, #linuxaudio supported as well.

If you have too many samples to know them all, try it out!

Linea Aspera closed the #coldheartedfestival in Bochum but not without advocating for anti-fascism and for the defense of Palestine. Before introducing their last song, they stopped the music and have a word with the crowd. Should be normal stuff in normal times, but nowadays in Germany it's not. In fact I was surprised that only a portion of us reacted with shouts or clapping.

Thank you and kudos.
