okay, we're doing it, we're hitting the big button! see y'all on the new account!!! @ireneista
there are about ten of you who we very much want to follow from the new account as well but can't, due to federation issues that we haven't been able to resolve. sorry :(((((( our plan is that once the waiting period on the migration is done, we'll be able to use this account solely to stay in touch with you

downloading the entire thing would have been seen as strongly antisocial back in the day (it uses bandwidth others could benefit from; plus if you have the resources to store ALL of it, you should volunteer to host a mirror)
that's clearly not the case today or there wouldn't be a tarball, but it still has us feeling nervous :D

because we're waiting while a complete archive of the Apple II Documentation Project downloads, we actually have to WAIT for the download (currently 5 GiB into it)
it's so nostalgic. reminds us of when we'd review the index file and queue up the three downloads we most wanted to see that night, reviewing each as it finished...

some of those sites are ftp-style file archives with multiple mirrors and text files that list what's there. happily, we know how to explore these and find what we want, from childhood
unlike in our childhood, it's viable to just download the entire archive as a tarball and grep it. so that's an interesting wrinkle

this research is taking us to a lot of sites we visited in the 90s, which is interesting

it's a little difficult to tell whether there's much of an Apple ][ hacking scene in the way that there is an NES hacking scene, any good sites for it would also be very welcome

we decided we want to hack the original Apple ][ Number Munchers to quiz us about Mersenne primes
are there any good debugging emulators for the platform? fceaux for the NES is amazing, something with even a tenth of those features would be great

"generation" narratives and labels mostly wind up dividing us when we would be better off united.
this is one of those few opinions we have that's really classifiable as a hot take... anyway, yeah

someday in ten years when One Piece ends, it's totally going to turn out that the One Piece is literally just a single low-value coin or something like that ("it's all one piece!"), isn't it
like it's the kind of show that would do that to its viewers

some things ARE coincidences. life is not a Hollywood movie, things can happen without there being story logic behind them.

so we guess now it's time to learn how to deal with that stuff. we understand it to be mostly paperwork and politics, which are things we know how to do...

so we realized that it's possible that a lot of the follows that didn't go through when we sent them from the new instance, are due to federation issues

now we have said it "out loud", so at the very least we can stop thinking about it quite as much, and perhaps someone enjoyed reading it :) that would be a nice bonus

anyway that's where we are with it so far. we're not clear on the extent to which this agrees or disagrees with what's been written before, heh.

but it seems pretty clear that there's an emergent and measurable truth there, as well? life tries to keep living, simply for the sake of living, that's why it is alive at all. to that end, we need to eat. intelligent life tells itself stories about living because making sense of things is what we do. to that end, we NEED to invent concepts such as feeling pretty, not that specific one, but there must be something.

but we're, like, pretty firmly in the latter camp? life rituals - eating together as a family; starting gender transition; that sort of thing - do get meaning in part through repetition and expectations, through the stories we're always telling ourselves about who we are and what we're doing... which sounds like mimesis in this sense to us

we're doubtless summarizing that badly because this is, like, our first impression of a debate for which most of the participants are long dead and which we've read none of the primary sources for
