Kingston Technology are a veteran reliable provider of RAM and SSD hardware, so naturally I gravitated towards them when buying a storage upgrade for my #ps5

Managed to get #Pixelfed running in a set of containers using @jippi 's repo to the point where I'm happy to put it on an Internet facing server.

This includes not exposing MariaDB and Redis to the Internet, and tweaks to host it behind my existing #Traefik reverse proxy.

Next up will be setting up some admin accounts and preemptively blocking bad actors before enabling federation, also making sure that mail delivery is working. After that, testing backups and restores.

This seems to be good #GreenEnergy news for #Manchester. Not quite sure about "green hydrogen" though. Presumably that's using excess electricity to crack water into hydrogen and then burning it back into water later?

I've had a bit more of a poke at this now, the Dockerfile is installing a bunch of services and they're running when the container does.

Nothing's really integrated and talking to itself yet, that's the next step...

I got a little sidetracked by the fact that Pixelfed ships with its own docker-compose.yml but I can't figure out how to make sense of it.

So for those of us who haven't been following the #WordPress drama, what's the best way to run a simple WordPress site these days? Ideally in a container I can stick behind my SSL-terminating #Traefik proxy.

I explicitly don't want any stalky plugins that phone home, but the ActivityPub plugin would be cool so blog posts go straight onto Fedi.

(also do I know any #trans people who are any good at creating WordPress themes?)

Had a bit of a play at building a #PixelFed #Docker container tonight. I'm planning a simple "all in one" build with nginx, MariaDB, php-fpm and Redis bundled under either runit or supervisord.

That should make it easier for people to play with spinning up their own instances. Should have something to show for this by the end of the weekend but there's some PHP / Laravel learning curve.

I just read "Border" by John Ajvide Lindqvist (in translation, my Swedish is nonexistent) and.. yeah. That's a complicated story of The Other. It has some trans / intersex elements which are used to differentiate characters from "normal people", characters who are by definition and by the standards of society "monsters". But it also talks about those characters having their culture erased by our society. Gonna think about that a bit more.

There's a film adaptation which might be on Amazon Prime, I'll check when I'm back home. Reviews say it's beautiful but problematic...
