I just read "Border" by John Ajvide Lindqvist (in translation, my Swedish is nonexistent) and.. yeah. That's a complicated story of The Other. It has some trans / intersex elements which are used to differentiate characters from "normal people", characters who are by definition and by the standards of society "monsters". But it also talks about those characters having their culture erased by our society. Gonna think about that a bit more.

There's a film adaptation which might be on Amazon Prime, I'll check when I'm back home. Reviews say it's beautiful but problematic...
