This is genuinely VERY good.
I learned so much about things happening in the tech/Internet world that I had no idea about.
Unfortunately it was such a tour de force, that I forgot most individual issues, so I'm just going to have to relisten to it soon.

I can sort of understand the woke left's insistence that immigrants should be taken in, on the basis that they fundamentally don't believe national borders should be considered important, and people should have the right to move from one country to another at will. Based on this, I can sort of understand their insistence that illegal immigrants shouldn't be deported either.
But what I really, really don't understand, is the insistence that dangerous, hardened criminals should not be deported, or even arrested, if they are immigrants.
I'm not talking about suspects either, but proven ganbangers and other career criminals.
Yet Andy Ngo's stream is full of reports of how wokesters are publishing ICE agents' actions and locations, in order to actively stop them from arresting and deporting these actual dangerous criminals.
I can sort of understand, logically, believing that people should be allowed to stay because they should have the right to live in another country if they so wish. But I can't see what kind of logic could possibly lead to "these members of a hyper-violent Latin American gang must not be arrested/deported".
The only thing I can see leading to this is a knee-jerk "ICE bad" reaction, which at this point amounts to a thought-terminating cliche.
It just makes no sense.

Broke out my watercolours again. This is my first attempt at a composition that's not copied from anything. I did use "how to draw lilies" guide as a reference, but put the drawing together myself.
I can of course see all the mistakes, but it's still better than what I've done before, I think.
I did consider not inking the outlines, but the existing ink marks* made it really difficult to see the pencil outlines. So inking it was.
And yes, I know no lily stem would actually have several different coloured flowers. We can just pretend some dastardly florist had their dirty mitts involved.

I don't know if this has been posted here yet, but it's definitely worth a listen if one has time.
"How the Gender Agenda Captured Iceland, with Eldur Smári Kristinsson "
One highlight: The bishop of the national church of Iceland has a TIM child, and her sister also has a trans-identified child. The church has gone all-on on genderism (no surprise) and after Kristinsson's presentation at the conference in Lisbon, she went on veritable media tour of one softball interview after another, where she lauded the joys and beauty of having a "trans child" (around 22min if someone's interested).

Seeing as Finland has the highest coffee consumption per capita in the world, it's no surprise the latest development in coffee technology also originates there.
The consumer model is expected to hit the shops right in time for the 2026 christmas rush.

What are the policy/system differences we're talking about here?
And why have they caused such a difference in results?

I've been encountering quite a bit of stuff lately about reducing hair washes, or washing one's hair only once a week or so, and typically with the subtext that it's a good thing.
I am, obviously, not a hairdresser or anything, but I can't help thinking that such a choice is only suitable for someone who doesn't do significant amount of exercise.
I mean... how? If one did strenuous exercise on most days of the week, how could one possibly go even half a week without washing the sweat off one's scalp?

I believe the word "hysterical" is suitable here. In more than one sense.

Helen Joyce tells of how her grandmother, upon learning that Joyce's mother was planning on switching to breastfeeding, thought she was crazy. Joyce says her mother later told her that the grandmother's generation viewed bottle-feeding as a "liberation from the tyranny of the baby".
Joyce's mother had 9 children. I expect her grandmother had that many, or more. Probably in close succession (see also "birth control is a sin and each baby is a blessing").
I suspect the women in Joyce's grandmother's generation were facing the possibility of spending essentially all their fertile years near-continuously tethered to breastfeeding. If that was the case, I can absolutely see how they would come to view it as a tyranny, and the bottle as a liberation.

Below is a purely hypothetical conversation, presented here as an illustration of a point.
Person A: Makes an assertion.
Me: Oh. What evidence do you have to back that up?
A: It's not my job to educate you.
Myself: Well, if you're not going to present any evidence for your claim, I'm just going to ignore it.
A: ... !! ... But! You need to Listen to [insert demographic] voices!!
I: No I don't.
"It's not my job to educate you" is not an argument.
If someone refuses to present arguments for their claims, they have only themselves to blame, if people ignore the said claims.

It seems to me that one of the things one gets from living abroad, is a deeper understanding and appreciation of one's own culture and roots.
For example, I think I'm beginning to explicitly understand the deep, underlying cultural meaning of christmas in Finnish culture. And the church's efforts notwithstanding, it's not so much the birth of the christian savior. It's a burst of warmth and light in the middle of the deepest, darkest winter, just before the coldest heart of the winter settles down upon us. Not just a promise of a new spring, it's in itself a triumpf of light, warmth, effort and will over the hardships of the cold, hostile world. That I believe explains why so much of Finnish christmas is a curious blend of joy and the minor key, much better than any references to puritan christianity.
The christianity is there, sure. But as christianity has been on the wane and lost cultural importance, I would argue that the aforementioned, almost atavistic sense of christmas as an almost defiant* celebration of life and light in the deepest, coldest darkness of the year.
And a good example of the combination of joy and sadness are the christmas songs that have become favourites in Finland. These songs typically spend 2-4 stanzas on very unchristian sentiments, only to tag a christian-themed stanza at the end, or maybe have one or two lines here and there.
This is one of my favourites, the first lines translates to "when the snow covers the land and the lakes are frozen over, and the eye of the sun has been snuffed out, when the swallow is far away and the forest is deserted and silent with no song". The stanza ends with "a warm breath of air passes through the winter weather, when it is christmas".

Happy Christmas!!
Yes, christmas is properly celebrated today. I will hear no objections.
So enjoy your ham, potatoes, fish, veggies, bread and cakes.
Put on some good music, light a fire even if it's just a candle and with a beverage of your choice, be merry!
I know I will!

The word (=rumour) now is that the attacker is a radical anti-islamist atheist, who decided to ram his car into a Christmas market because he opposed the spread of islamism in Germany.
The official sources appear very tight-lipped, as per usual.
I'm not saying this isn't possible.
I'm saying that if this is true, it's the most unhinged terrorist act I've heard of in a long time.
Not because of the act itself is more or less hinged, but the motive + target combination is just... nonsensical.
What can I say. "Atheist ex-muslim attacks a christmas market" certainly wasn't on my bingo card.
