I've been encountering quite a bit of stuff lately about reducing hair washes, or washing one's hair only once a week or so, and typically with the subtext that it's a good thing.

I am, obviously, not a hairdresser or anything, but I can't help thinking that such a choice is only suitable for someone who doesn't do significant amount of exercise.

I mean... how? If one did strenuous exercise on most days of the week, how could one possibly go even half a week without washing the sweat off one's scalp?

@Gnomeshatecheese there was a trend for not using shampoo a long time ago, it bubbles up again often. I think it's the shampoo, rather than no water at all. So I assume they are take a shower but not use products.

I sweat a lot in my head, so my short hair is washed on light shampoo every day, I feel really yucky without that, and am grateful I can manage to do it. Went 6 months of not washing my hair at all when I was very severely ill, and it was not pleasant in outcome.

@FeartnTired No, these really are "not get your hair wet when you shower" types. Some wear waterproof bonnets and everything.

My issue is that my scalp doesn't like going without a wash too long. I am finicky about my hair looking greasy, but my scalp has become sensitive apparently, and starts acting up if it gets the wrong kind of shampoo, or not shampooed often enough.

@Gnomeshatecheese @FeartnTired All shampoos and soaps are to some degree toxic and dry out not only our hair but our heads, especially the scented ones.

Currently I'm using an 'all-natural' one from Australia OR a supposedly non-toxic unscented for dishes. I prefer the dishes one because it's completely unscented (to me with a shnoz) and it actually makes my hair less staticky. Conditioners make my hair oily and limp.

I used to wash my hair daily, a tiny ponytail the rest pretty short, I now wash it every few days as it's not nearly as oily as I get older. In fact it's ridiculously frizzy even though it's straight! I'm really hoping the med I'm waiting for will help my pathetic hair soon.

My scalp is still often itchy. Sis with similar hair uses a lot of products and still has the same crappy hair.
