I was hoping to fix the bridged pins on my LCD adapter board this afternoon, but too late realized I'd only bought two unpopulated boards with me. Or so I thought. Later in the evening I discovered that one of those boards was in fact the one I'd fully populated, but I hadn't noticed because components are just that small nowadays. It's bananas.

Today's repair log:

replaced the right-click switch in my trackball, which felt relatively mushy after replacing the left one.

replaced the broken power jack on a MSI GS66, which was a slightly weird custom part. The new jack isn't seated correctly because I couldn't get all the solder out of the through holes in what I'm assuming is an 8- or 10-layer PCB, so I just dremelled the case to compensate. It is impressively janky but seems to work so far.

restored in-house servers after discovering that the 8yo had unplugged everything in the basement for some reason.

Once in a while I'm reminded of how brilliant Wendy Carlos is, and how bummed I am that we'll never get a remastered Tron soundtrack.

[internal monologue while brushing teeth this morning] there's so much hardware driving the OLED display on this electric toothbrush, there's no reason they can't just audibly talk to you, since you can't see the display while brushing anyway. your toothbrush could say "hey, good job", or "get the back a little more", or "haven't seen you in a while, what's up". maybe people would build up relationships with their toothbrushes, and the toothbrush would be all "where were you last night? is there another oral-b?" and eventually people would fall in love with their toothbrushes, and there would be underground toothbrush firmware hackers adding kink stuff, sexy voices, or like the ability to bring your toothbrush to orgasm while brushing

Tonight everything was closed except the pastrami joint and the Tunisian joint. My dining buddy encouraged me to try the Tunisian place. Due to the language barrier I'm not sure exactly what I just ate but it was fabulous

That was surprisingly comfy! I appreciated the higher ceilings that were standard in a pre-AC world, with the caveat that I could completely see myself yawning, stretching, and having my fingertips removed by one of the unguarded ceiling fans
