[#]WritersCoffeeClub 9 January. Do you borrow settings, plots or characters from other works (without plagiarism)?

I have a planned work in progress based on reading Barbara Tuchman's book, A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century...It contributes to setting, informs characters, and sets parameters for plots...

[#]WritersCoffeeClub 1/9. Do you borrow settings, plots or characters from other works (without plagiarism)?

Not consciously, but I have heard of books saying that there are only 7 plots, anyway!

@inkscape Trying again today. When I export it as a TIFF, the image comes out pink.

I sure wish Inkscape's export behavior was consistent and predictable.

[#]EngenderedWriting 67 — Have you ever included sex workers in your stories? Why/not?

No. In the world of one of my series, the human race went through a massive bottleneck (yes, nuke/bio/chem warfare wiped out human life on earth). The only survivors lived in orbital and other off-planet stations. Sex is free, reproduction strongly encouraged, pregnancy not required. Population is almost entirely mixed-gender, mixed-age polycules operating stations/spacecraft throughout the solar system.

@inkscape Well, I've consulted your forums and searched the web, and found no solution. I have an SVG created in Inkscape 1.2 on Debian Bookworm: One white box. Some photos. One line of text (filled with black). Alpha is set to 100 for each of these objects.

Yet when I export it all as a PNG, it comes out transparent. I don't want it to be transparent. Can't find anyway to change that. Ideas?

[#]WordWeavers 5/1: Has your writing process changed over time?

First book started on a used Olivetti manual typewriter. It journeyed through a Commodore VIC-20, a Commodore, and IBM PC clone...

Putting words down is key, but I fondly remember the days when there was growing stack of paper beside the typewriter, making visible the progress!

[#]WritersCoffeeClub Jan 5 What’s your worst writing month, and why?

Define "worst". What if I spent the month trying to get a story off the ground but nothing I could do would make it fly? Maybe it would be a good or great story, maybe I'm just not the right writer for it?

I had an idea for a law story, involving attorneys, the US Supreme Court, and the assassination of a (popular, well-respected) chief justice. I know nothing of the law, let alone anything as esoteric as US constitutional law!
