I was messing around covering this on my new mandolin today. The song uses 3 of the only 5 chords I know :)

I need to research a good acoustic pickup for my mandolin so I can bring it to an open mic and yell about fascists.

Woody Guthrie recorded "Tear the Fascists Down" in 1944. A year later, Germany then Japan surrendered.

Coincidence? Probably.

Anyway... my conference is less than two months away and I'm trying to get sponsor $$ for https://chippewavalleycodecamp.com/

It's a free community event that provides tech education, mentoring, professional networking, and all that hoopla.

If anyone knows of some kind of grant program or anything, I'd be down with that!

Sometimes I wonder if I purposefully load myself down with stressful projects, just to have an excuse for the alcoholism that relieves the stress.

Like having a demanding job and 2 kids in diapers wasn't enough...

Here's a new rule for when I start the union:

If you're a salaried worker who has to work on weekends or holidays to meet a strict deadline for a project, you don't have to adhere to normal business hours and you can be as drunk as necessary.

Anyway... Happy MLK Day, everyone!

I love how storebought green onion cuttings sprout roots in water. I just planted some. They seem remarkably hearty, and probably the only thing that'll grow in #shedstudio

I live in a winter hellscape, and the shed is only heated on afternoons I work. Otherwise it stays just above freezing.

Until spring comes, this is about the only greenery I get outside of #bloomscrolling. Hopefully it helps me through winter.

Idk what kinda adult I am. I got excited to bring the kids out sledding and I forgot I had a considerable amount of shoveling to take care of.

Mise en place is a French term that means, "before you dress a toddler and an infant for playing in the snow, make sure you know where all the stuff is first."

Woah. Jim Guthrie has a #shedStudio too!

From https://www.relyonhorror.com/in-depth/interview-the-playful-darkness-of-composer-jim-guthrie/

"Rely On Horror: Is making music in a shed behind your house better than touring with a drum kit?

Jim Guthrie: Yeah, 100 percent. I stick to my shed because it’s my little castle.

PR: The shed is the best. I just have to say that the shed is the best."

I was curious about what music algorithms think about my music.

I used Spotify's "play song radio" which builds a playlist around a single seed track: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1E8OInP7hHslpH

I don't know any of these bands. But I guess its doing a pretty good job at sonically-similar tracks. I'm not in love with any of them but I don't mind it.

Also, damn do I miss #radiofreefedi

It was a hard-fought battle of Kurt's, but Vonnegut won with 5 votes!

Good work, fellow fedizens. I'm proud to call you comrades!

Looking for help finding a web-based service for competitive coding at a conference event.

The idea: kind of like Crash & Compile at DEFCON.

We would set up a projector with an algorithm problem, it would show their two textboxes displaying 2 competitor's solutions in real-time to the problem, and show the outputs every time they ran a solution.

There used to be a platform called CodeFights that accomplished this, but it pivoted to coding-interview software :(

Been working on a website during my holiday break. A refresh of chippewavalleycodecamp.com with Hugo SSG.

I was just about ready to publish it.... and now I have apache config access issues.

I was sooo ready to have a celebratory drink, too.

I mean, I started making drinks a while ago. But none of them were celebratory :(

Are there any good reasons why I shouldn't purchase an older, used deep (chest) freezer?

Has there been new efficiencies or anything in the last 10 years that would make buying a new one better?

TIL that the tolerance is so good on the teeth of my needle-nose pliers that I can use my multitool to pluck nose hairs.

There might be a joke in there somewhere but IDGAF. The real lesson here is that I'm ready for a holiday break.

My buddy is watching Game of Thrones for the first time. He's been texting me updates about it all week.

It's warming my heart.... like watching videos of baby kittens, but more satisfying.

I've either lost all patience and forgotten how to code, or I've been suffering from burnout.

Maybe it's a bit of both?

But anyway. I have a short week next week, and then I'm off for the holidays and then some. 2.5 weeks.

I think I need it.
